IDloop builds contactless 3D fingerprint scanners and industrial 3D imaging hardware — EU co-funded, a finalist in NIST's Fast Capture programme, selling to border security and government. The site is a technical catalogue and a shop at the same time, for a product whose buyer needs specifications before they need a cart.

The brief

The heavy work here was the back end. Selling industrial scanners online means real hardware logistics: configurable products, subscription plans for the software that runs them, card payment that satisfies a government procurement office, and shipping quotes for a boxed instrument going to another country.

On top of that the content is genuinely varied — products, the technology behind them, technical data sheets, SDKs and apps, resources, insights — and each type needs its own fields and its own taxonomies. Flattened into pages it becomes unnavigable at exactly the moment a serious buyer starts comparing.

What I built

I built the front end and the back end. Six content types carry the site — products, technology, technical data, SDKs and apps, resources and insights — each with its own taxonomies, including partner country and category so the network can be filtered by where you are.

Commerce is WooCommerce with Subscriptions for the recurring software plans, Stripe for payment and FedEx for live shipping rates, so a scanner ordered from another country gets a real delivery cost rather than a contact form. Product pages carry a configurator, performance metrics and the capture sequence explained step by step, because the buyer is comparing instruments and the specification is the sales pitch.

Back end

Hardware commerce, properly

WooCommerce with Subscriptions for the software plans, Stripe for payment and FedEx for live shipping rates. Selling a boxed instrument internationally means a real delivery quote at checkout, not a promise to get back to you.

Content model

Six content types, filtered

Products, technology, technical data, SDKs and apps, resources and insights each have their own fields and taxonomies — including partner country, so the network can be filtered by where the buyer is.

Content

Specification as the sales pitch

Scan area, capture time and data points per scan are given the space usually reserved for marketing copy, because the buyer is comparing instruments and those are the numbers the comparison turns on.

Content

How the capture actually works

The 3D capture is explained as a numbered sequence — project, capture, reconstruct — so a procurement officer can understand the technology without a datasheet.
